Belmonte Estates Flag Donation Registry
December 18, 2019
Greetings and Happy Holidays:
You may have noticed that next to our community flag, we now have a sign recognizing community neighbors who donate an American flag to our community. This idea originated with Gregg Capper, a past Belmonte Estates board member. Gregg believed that many members of our community would welcome the opportunity to donate a replacement American flag when the current one became unsuitable, either due to weather or use. At his suggestion, the board voted to place a commemorative marker for a sign where members of the community who donated a flag would be recognized.
Soon, our board will host its first flag raising dedication ceremony. Although it was Gregg's and Jodie's wishes to purchase the this flag themselves, the board voted to make the purchase in Gregg and Jodie’s name as a way of thanking Gregg for this grand idea as well honoring his past service on the board and his continued leadership on the Road Committee. Many do not know this, but Gregg is our unofficial tenderer of the flag, lowering it to half mast when the situation calls for it as well as keeping the board informed as to the condition of the flag. Did I also mention that Gregg also served in the Navy?
All Belmonte Estates neighbors are cordially invited to attend the official flag raising ceremony scheduled to be held at 8:30 on January 4, 2020. Please join the HOA board as we gather around the flagpole and raise our community flag in what we hope will be a new and long-standing tradition.
If you are interested in purchasing and donating a flag for the community for future use, you may add your name to a Flag Donation Registry on our community's website at https://www.belmonteestates.org/flag-donation-registry.html <https://www.belmonteestates.org/flag-donation-registry.html?fbclid=IwAR2JsplT8VOxK3WwsTx4FwOIkDmCDEBcv695lcLlQOTd9DxpWeLFtZSkCjM%22%20%5Ct%20%22_blank> . Donors may also donate a flag in memory of a loved one if they so wish.
The holiday season is a time of traditions. Your HOA board is proud to have supported you, our neighbors, by introducing, supporting, and/or sponsoring community traditions such as the annual Progressive Dinner, the Neighborhood Block Party, the Halloween Party, the annual Happy Hour, and now our Flag Donation Registry. But no matter what the board does, it is you, our neighbors, that make this community what it is: A Place to Live, Play, and be with Family.
On behalf of the board and myself, may your holidays be blessed and joyful,
Douglas Sexton
